Being recognised by a school outside my own, purely on results, meant a lot going into my final year of school. It set the bar for the maths-driven competitions and awards that followed later that year and into 2016.
In February 2016, I was recognised as the top learner in mathematics in the public schools category at the Mbombela Excellence Awards, held at the civic centre alongside Deputy Minister of Basic Education Reginah Mhaule.
In July 2015, I won the Mintek provincial maths and science competition at Cyril Clarke Secondary, and went on to become a finalist at Mintek's headquarters in Johannesburg.
In July 2014, I led a team that designed and built a battery-powered electric vehicle, finishing 2nd for our school at the EV Challenge — an endurance race for schools held at Mbombela Stadium.
